WinDdesign Light is a software application that utilizes Excel to automatically generate McCabe-Thiele diagrams.

These diagrams are used for the basic design of distillation towers. The software is based on WinVLE Light.

How to use

  • Save WinDdesign Light.xls and WinVLE.dll in any folder.

  • Open WinDdesign Light.xls in Excel and enable macros, as this software uses macros.

  • Enter the data based on the formula provided in the WinDdesign sheet. The basic data input is mole-based.

  • Sheet2 includes a VLE curve diagram based on molecular weight.

  • For instructions on how to input and use data, please refer to the next page. For more details on the McCabe-Thiele method, please consult chemical engineering books.

WinVLE Light Ver.2.01

WinVLE Light is a software program commonly used in scientific instrument design to calculate isobaric VLE. With this software, you can easily calculate the gas-liquid equilibrium curve based on given physical property values. Furthermore, the VLE calculation is defined as an Excel function, which makes it possible to use it in various applications that require phase equilibrium calculations.
Additionally, the software is customizable to suit your preferences and can be used to create new applications.

This version only supports the Wilson model for binary systems.

How to use

  • Save WinVLE.xls and WinVLE.dll in any folder.

  • Open WinVLE.xls in Excel and enable macros, as this software uses macros.

  • Enter the vapor pressure and molecular weight data into the blue cells.
    Vapor pressure data is based on the Antoine formula:
    logP=a-b/(t+c) ; P [mmHg], t[℃]
    Please enter molecular weight in [gmol].

  • Please enter pressure values.

  • Enter values in Wilson Binary Parameters
    *If the parameter is set to 1, the calculation can be performed in the ideal solution.

  • Sheet1 is a weight-based calculation sheet, and Sheet2 is a mol-based calculation sheet.

vle2wily: Calculates the composition of the vapor in equilibrium ( by weight) based on the composition of the vapor in equilibrium (by weight)
vle2wilt: Calculates equilibrium temperature (boiling point) based on liquid composition x1 (by weight)
vle2wilym: Calculates equilibrium vapor composition (by mol) based on liquid composition x1 (by mol)
vle2wiltm: Calculates equilibrium temperature (boiling point) based on liquid composition x1 (by mol)
